Qi Gong
Holden Qigong with Michelle Heffner Hayes

Rooted in Taoist and Buddhist philosophies, traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts, qi gong draws upon images from nature to enliven the body, calm the mind, and elevate the spirit. Like its “sister form” of tai chi, qi gong includes flowing movements, and like yoga, it contains stretches, postures, breathing and meditation. We will also do tapping and knocking to activate pressure points from traditional Chinese medicine.

There are an estimated 3,500 different styles of qi gong worldwide. What is distinctive about Holden Qi Gong is the use of shorter sequences in combination to address specific issues, like stress relief, lower back pain, increased energy, or strength and flexibility, to name a few. Lee Holden is a US-based teacher and acupuncturist, a student and collaborator of the Grand Master Mantak Chia. I hold a Tier 1 Teaching Certification in Holden Qi Gong.

What will we do?
In our practice, we will begin with a warm up to activate and clear stagnation or blocks, from muscle contraction to emotional tension. Then, we move to a series of flowing postures to circulate the qi. Practices longer than 30 minutes also involve gentle stretches, and end with a meditation to digest the benefits of the practice.
